Antonov AN-2, 14-Seat Public Transport, Fire-fighting, Agricultural, 987hp 9-cylinder radial engine with AW-2 4-blade constant speed variable pitch propeller. The worlds biggest and most popular bi-plane.
This Antonov AN-2 is currently in Ukraine and based at an active airfield just outside of Kharkiv region. It was acquired from the Polish Military has seen a mixture of hangar and field based life.
The aircraft is currently flying and has a Russian FLA registration and 2yrs remaining on the Certificate of Airworthiness. Oxygen is fitted, instructors full right hand specification and locking tailwheel. The aircraft will be sold with lots of spares and an English manual and can be moved onto a more appropriate aircraft register if required.
The AN-2 has been in service for more than half-a-century and some 15,000 were built during this time. A large single-engine bi-plane made of an all-metal stressed-skin semi-monocoque structure with great STOL performance capabilities. Today, even low-time good quality examples of these aircraft cost little to acquire and have an unequalled safety record.
They have a long service life and originally designed to meet the criteria of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in the USSR. After 1960, most of the AN-2's were built in Poland at the PZL factory in Mielec. PZL Mielec enhanced the time before overhaul of these aircraft to 900hrs, 1500hrs, and 2000hrs in 1961, 1970 and 1973 respectively. Service life was enhanced from just over 6,000hrs to 15,000hrs!
